Suppositae trabi superest crux sanctior omni,
corpora sanctorum cui plurima sancta supersunt.
Hoc crucis signo nos protege, Christe redemptor!
Sic fecit praesul Stigand in nomine Christi
hic qui corde rogat, ueniam te dante reportet.
[‘This Cross, more sacred than anything else, stands above the supporting beam, above which are found the several holy relics of saints [in the cross-reliquary]. Protect us with the sign of this Cross, O Christ our Redeemer!
